My new learning goal

My Learning Goal

Yesterday I got my new learning goals for term 4.

Today I am going to talk about my new maths goal.

My maths goal is to know tenths and hundreds in decimals up to 2 places. Here is a example.

Tenths in 5.3= 53

and in hundredths 6.24= 624

I think that this goal is good for me because I don't know it very well and I think that I could learn this goal quickly.

On kiwi lids news I read that NASA has sent a rocket into space aimed at asteroid.

The space craft is called Osiris-Rex. Osiris-Rex was launched from Florida late last week. The reason of this launch is to get a sample of the asteroid and bring it back to earth to study. This is the first time NASA has sent a space craft to make contact with a asteroid. NASA have chosen a asteroid closer to earth called Bennu but this asteroid is still far away. This mission will take a estimated seven years and will be back on earth in about 2023.

My Writing Goal

My writing goal is to organise my ideas into paragraphs that are connected and and that have enough detail to support the main idea. I feel that I could work on this learning goal a bit more but other wise I feel that I have done this writing goal well because I do sometimes use paragraphs in my writing but other times I forget to use paragraphs so I think that I could do better with this learning goal. Also when I do use paragraphs I think that I do well with supporting the main idea as my writing goal said.

On kiwi kids news I read about how the Samsung Galaxy note7's battery catching on fire because of this Samsung has stopped selling the Samsung Galaxy note7 and have told the people that have the note7 to turn it off and can come trade it in for another Samsung phone. Due to the phone blowing up and catching fire it has cost Samsung 3 billion dollars. Samsung have replaced 2.5 million phones. Samsung is still finding out why the phones are catching fire and blowing up but Samsung thinks that the problem is to do with the battery. The note7 has been banned on airlines such as air NewZealand  due to the phone catching fire or blowing up on board. This is not the first time this has happened to Samsung on September the first Galaxy note7 blew up and the second note7 is also blowing up.

My Reading Goal

My Learning Goal

My reading goal is to expand my vocabulary by reading longer texts such as novels for longer time frames and remember what I have read over days and and across different texts on the same topic.

I think that that I have done well on remembering the topics of the books that I have read I have also been reading bigger and harder books to read and I have also found some new words in books that I have read. So in conclusion I think that I have done well on my reading learning goal.

Today on Kiwi Kid's News I found out that Jupiter's moon Europa is spewing water jets.

Jupiter's icy moon Europa is spewing water jets. The water goes up to about 100 kilometres before falling back down to Europa and every eight minutes the amount of water used to full up an Olympic swimming pool would be spewed out to space. Scientists are thinking about trying to capture a sample of water and bring it back to earth to test and examine.

Scientists first found out about this in 2013 using a telescope and now in 2016 Scientists have seen the water being spat out into space again.

The catch of the day

Pua cast his line from the dinghy and it snagged straight away. Uncle uncle tried to reel it in but it wouldn't budge suddenly the skies turned grey. The sea got choppy and a giant pirate ship bubbled up from the depths of the ocean dwarfing uncles dingy.

Pua got so excited he quickly paddled over to a ladder going up to the the ship. When Pua and uncle got up onto the ship Pua yelled.

“Wow this is massive”.

Pua started to look for treasure with uncle following behind. Pua walked into the captain's room and found heaps of treasure he yelled out to uncle.

“Look at all this treasure”.

Uncle and Pua looked at all the treasure there were lots of expensive things in the treasure chest like diamonds, pearls, and gold. But how would they get all the treasure back to Shaw they were thinking about taking the whole pirate ship back to Shaw but there was no sails and uncles little dingy wouldn't hold all the treasure. Pua and his uncle started to search for sails. They searched for almost two hours straight but just before they finished searching Pua saw something out the side of his eye it looked like big white sheets and they were sails. Uncle and Pua put all the sails up and uncle and Pua sailed home. When they got back they got some fish and chips and brought them home.

Maths

Today in maths I worked out 55x250. I worked the problem out like this. First I did 50x200=10,000 then I did 50x50=2,500 them I did 5x50=250 and them I added them all up and I got 13,750

This week I have learned to do problems like this. If Mrs A started with a whole basket of chocolates. She eats 5/8 of them. That left 21 chocolates for her friends to eat. How many chocolates were there to start with.

Reflection

This week we have had Adrian from Tauranga city council she taught us about how we should be looking after our water because 97% of our water is too salty to drink so we can only drink 3% of our water but 2% is too deep in the ground so we can only drink 1% of our water. We all talked about ways we can look after our 1%. This week we have started our speech ideas witch is going well. We are also doing toku ako and we are doing that on the Olympics. 

Maths

In maths I have been doing mental maths. I have learnt about tessellation. Tessellation is when you can put two shapes together and there will be no gaps. Now I find this task easy.

Writing

In writing this week we have been leaning to use paragraphs. Paragraphs are when you sort your ideas in to different groups. I feel like I have done this well in my super hero writing because I have organised my ideas in to different groups.

Place value to solve multiplication problems

Place value 

today I used place value to work out trickey multiplication questions. Eg 17x5 I split the 17 into ten and seven and that made it easy for me

10x5=50

7x5=35

and then I added 50+35=85

I found this strategy easy 

Story cube

My story cube is based on the book Tom Gates top of the class (nearly).
It is about a boy called Tom Gates and he gets into lots of trouble the bully of the school makes up a nickname for a teacher.Tom Gates finds out the name of the teacher and he draws a picture to show his friend.But then he loses the picture and he has to find the picture before the teachers find it.But he struggles to find the picture but Tom finally finds the picture takes it home and rips the drawing.
